Quick Tips: Kir

As we move into the Holiday season, there's a chance you might want to serve your guests an aperitif* before dinner. Or perhaps you've been given or bought some white wine you're not particularly fond of. Well, here's a simple idea that will win everyone over.

Kir is a popular aperitif in France and is very simple to make. Add a couple of teaspoons of Creme de Cassis to the bottom of a wine glass and top with chilled white wine.

Creme de Cassis is a sweet, thick black-currant flavored liqueur which is a specialty from the Burgundy region of France, although there are other areas in France producing it, as well as other countries. It can be found in the Cordials aisle in most stores who carry wines and spirits.

Variations:

Kir Royale - Creme de Cassis and Champagne or sparkling wine

* An Aperitif is an alcoholic drink served before dinner usually with finger food.
